Cold Plunge Tips & Why You Should Bring A Friend!

When should you begin a cold plunge routine?

The short answer is: TODAY, but there are some benefits to beginning adding a cold plunge regimen to your health and wellness routine in the warmer months.

The first benefit is obviously psychological, as the idea of getting in freezing water is much more appealing when our environment isn’t already cold.

Another plus to instilling a cold water therapy habit in the spring and hot summer months is that you will acclimate to the extreme temperature before the fall and winter months. Some have reported feeling less sensitive to cold weather because of their incorporation of cold plunge into their routine. This phenomenon is also because of the stimulation of brown fat thermogenesis through cold water therapy.

What time of day should you cold plunge?

This preference can vary from person to person, but some people report feeling more awake and energetic after cold plunge which would explain why so many tackle the tub first thing in the morning or during the day rather than at night.

better together

Studies show that individuals show more resiliency when facing a challenge when a friend goes along side of them. Call it “positive peer pressure”, but we are braver with friends!

Best friends Alison Martin and Rachele Bruu have created a weekly habit of going together to Clark Salon’s Fire & Ice room to experience the cold plunge tub and infrared sauna.

“Doing hard things with your best friend is much easier. We encourage each other and laugh a lot- all while listening to our favorite music (like Post Malone) My body craves the feeling I get after I plunge and I always look forward to next time!” – Alison Martin

“I love, love, LOVE contrast therapy! Actually you could say I’m addicted. And the best way to do it is with my best friend(s). We laugh, we sing, we feel AMAZING. And we always leave feeling strong, invigorated and clear of all brain fog. Cheering someone on to be their best self is quite an amazing feeling too1″ – Rachele Bruu
