Floatation Therapy

Clark Salon and Spa proudly offers two state-of-the-art wave floatation therapy rooms (also known as sensory deprivation)

to maximize your relaxation and recovery.

So what is floating all about?

Floating is about everything that you won’t be doing.

You won’t be fighting gravity. The 1,100 pounds of Epsom salt dissolved in the water makes you completely buoyant as you lie on your back.

The water is kept at 94 degrees. This is skin-receptor neutral, which means you lose track of where your body ends and the water begins.

Your ears stay just below the water line and the rooms are insulated against sound unless you choose to play spa music during your float.

Ideally you would float in total darkness to eliminate outside stimuli, however, you can also choose to from multiple light settings to make you most comfortable.

Some describe the experience as “floating in outerspace” and it is a great opportunity to block out the outside world and go deep within.

It turns out that when you’re not fighting gravity or constantly taking in information a lot of wonderful things can happen.

Your mind is free to mull things over without distraction, your brain pumps out dopamine and endorphins, and your  body gets to rest, de-stress and heal.

What are the benefits of floatation therapy?

  • Health and Wellness

People float to relieve stress, recover from injuries, fight addiction, eliminate chronic pain, and much more. Floating naturally increases your dopamine and endorphin levels, boosting your mood and leaving you with a pleasant afterglow that lasts for days afterward. Without the need to fight gravity or take in external information, you’ll likely experience the most complete relaxation you’ve ever felt.

  • Mindfulness & Meditation

Everything you experience while floating comes from within yourself. It’s the perfect to reflect on your life, and reports of creative and personal insights abound. Float rooms can also be thought of as training wheels for meditation. After about 30-40 minutes of floating, your mind starts producing theta brain waves which are responsible for that “between waking and sleeping” state. With practice people can enter theta state through deep meditation. Float rooms get you there effortlessly.

  • Self-Improvement

Floatation Therapy is a superior form of mental and physical recovery for both competitive and recreational athletes. With no distractions, musicians, artists, authors and academics have also benefitted from the astonishing level of concentration and unlocked creativity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring anything? No, just yourself. Towels, robes, earplugs, and everything else you need is provided.

What if I’m claustrophobic? People with claustrophobia consistently report no problems with floating- especially since we have float room and not pods that you can step out of at any time. You are always in control of your environment.

How are the rooms kept clean? The float room is sterile environment due to the high concentration of Epsom salt (each room contains over 1,000 pounds!) No microorganisms survive at the high level of salinity in the room. Further, the water is fully filtered four times between each float, passing through a 10 micron filter, UV treatment and hydrogen peroxide to fully sanitize and clean the water. The trace amount of hydrogen peroxide is completely safe for hair and body.

Can I drown if I fall asleep? No. You may fall asleep, but the water is so buoyant you stay afloat. The worst thing that could happen is getting woken up by a bit of salt water in your eyes. (we have a hand towel and clean water bottle nearby if that happens!)

Can I bring a friend? Absolutely. You can’t float together in the same room, but you can book floats at the same time to occupy both rooms.
